The old uploader was good for what it was, something to start with, but there have been so many other developments happening that we kept pushing it lower down the to-do list.

But we finally got it written and released it to everyone this evening…

What’s The Difference?

• You can upload multiple files from the same window
• It shows you when a file is totally uploaded and verified
• The upload does not start automatically ie: when you don’t expect it to
• We added better handeling for multibyte characters ie: Chinese/Japanese file names
• You can stop and start the uploads at your leisure
• Files that you added by accident can now be removed

What’s To Come?

• We will be adding a better uploading progress report
• It will show an estimate your average uplaod speed
• Based on your speed we will show roughly how long the current file will take to upload
• There are a couple of other things to be added here but we are keeping our lips sealed for a little longer.

As you may or may not know I started up 2Big2Send a while back, here is an update for you all.

The Company

Yes, we are now known as 2Big2Send Limited, registered in England and Wales with Company Number 6663498.
We decided to take the plunge and register ourselves as a company purely on the response he have had in our months of Beta testing. This is good for you the users as it gives you the comfort in knowing that your data is being stored by an actual company rather than some cowboys with a fancy website!

Beta No More

As of this morning we have removed our Beta status; the service is up to such a good level that we believe it exceeds the Beta sticker!
Just because we are out of beta does not mean that we are going to let the service run for a while, changes will be made often.

Premium Accounts

More disk space, more bandwidth, greater file expiry and no adverts!
Our premium accounts will be among the best there are around; first of all there will be no adverts on your pages or any collection or shared pages external users can see.
Bandwidth was always going to be something that got used up quickly so we have opened the gates on that and are offering massive amounts on the premium accounts.
The cost of online storage has decreased dramatically and is alot cheaper and more reliable than those USB pens, CD/DVDs or external hard disks; for this reason we are offering loads more storage on premium accounts so you will be able to send or backup as much as your account allows, and because the data is replicated through our storage servers the data is safe!

Desktop Client

The new 1.0.5 client is now available here with many improvements.

The 2.0 desktop client is well underway and will include a raft of new feature to upload, download and manage your account.

Shared Pages

We figured you needed a way to link directly to one of your files so we created the ‘Share’ page.
To get to this page you simply click the ‘Share’ button on the file details page, from there you can get the direct link to the page; we have also added some HTML and BB code so you can quickly add the links to your blog or forum.

We thought it would be nice to make it easier to get feedback on the service or on new features; and as a way for you guys and gals to keep up to date with what will be happening in the future.

Pink box testing

Some years ago I was in a job where I needed to bring in a lot of software contractors in a short space of time. As a result I ended up dealing with a good number of IT contracting agencies. To help the process I wrote very specific job / task descriptions, and sent these to all agencies.

Generally I would receive agency-specific CVs, where they had reformatted the candidate’s CV, and in places tweaked the content. Over time it became clear that some agencies certainly did a lot more than reformatting, adding things they thought I wanted to see. This was really annoying, as the fabrication would reveal itself at some point in the process, sometimes after wasting time on a candidate.

We needed a software tester, and while writing the task description I decided to see how far the agencies would go. The descriptions all had a section listing required skills and experience, and another listing desirables. In the required section I listed “Pink box testing experience”. There’s no such thing as Pink box testing - I made it up to see if I received any CVs with pink box testing listed.

Sure enough, a week or so after putting out the description, I received a CV for a software tester. He clearly had a lot of relevant experience, but the agency had added pink box testing as one of his strengths. It was fun ringing up the agent and explaining that he’d been caught in my trap, and listening to him trying to weasel his way out.
